TEEN TALK

Young Voices. Real Conversations. A Stronger Community.

Bilingual Youth Radio

| WCOM 103.5 FM |

Chapel Hill / Carrboro, North Carolina

Every Saturday | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM ET

Your Voice. Your Story. Your Radio.

Welcome to Teen Talk, where young voices take over the airwaves!

Teen Talk is a bilingual, youth-led radio program created by teens, for teens and the community. Broadcasting from WCOM Community Radio in Carrboro, North Carolina, our show brings together young people with different backgrounds, interests, and perspectives to talk about what matters to them.

From music and pop culture to personal experiences, community issues, and inspiring interviews, every episode brings something new to the conversation—in English, Spanish, or both!

But Teen Talk is more than just a radio show. It’s a place to discover talents, build friendships, develop leadership skills, and learn everything that goes into making radio happen.

Our teen volunteers do it all: planning episodes, writing scripts, hosting conversations, interviewing guests, choosing music, managing social media, and learning the technical side of broadcasting.

Our mission? To amplify youth voices, celebrate diversity, and create a space where everyone feels heard.

Meet the Voices Behind Teen Talk!

We’re a team of young creators, storytellers, music lovers, and community enthusiasts. Different personalities, different passions, one microphone—and plenty to say!

Ariana | Host & Content Creator

“Hi! I’m Ariana, one of the members of Teen Talk Youth Radio! I help organize the club, plan topics, write scripts, and prepare content for our shows.

I’m also a host, participating in conversations on air in both English and Spanish. As someone who is bilingual, I love being part of a program that brings together different cultures and perspectives.

I’m excited to help create a space where teens can share their ideas, experiences, and voices!”

Christopher | Host & DJ

“Hi! I’m Christopher. I’m 17 years old, and I’m from the United States, but I grew up in El Salvador.

I love soccer and talking with my friends about pretty much anything! At Teen Talk, I enjoy hosting, creating scripts, and being a DJ.

I’m excited to keep learning how radio works, share great music, and bring interesting conversations to our listeners!”

Violeta | DJ,  Volunteer Coordinator & School Club Liaison

“Hi! I’m Violeta, a member of Teen Talk Youth Radio!

I help bring our team’s ideas together, coordinate our youth volunteers, and serve as the connection between the radio station’s volunteer team and our school club.

I’m also involved in hosting and DJing. As a native Spanish speaker, I love connecting with people through both English and Spanish and sharing different cultural perspectives.

I’m excited to help create a welcoming space where young people can express themselves, share their experiences, and know their voices matter!”

Elsie | English Communications

“Hello! I’m Elsie, one of the English communicators for Teen Talk!

I love spending time with my friends and family, reading, playing Topgolf, and going to the gym.

Along with Shear, I help connect with our English-speaking audience and make sure everyone feels welcome and included in the Teen Talk community!”

Shear | English Communications

“Hi! My name is Shear, and Elsie and I are the English communicators for Teen Talk!

I love music, my dog, fashion, shopping, and spending time with friends and family!

We’re here to help guide our English-speaking listeners, keep everyone connected, and build a fun, welcoming community where everyone can be part of the conversation!”

Jazmin | Secretary & Social Media Manager

“Hi! My name is Jazmin, and I’m the secretary of Teen Talk and one of our social media managers!

I love reading, journalism, spending time with friends, going to the gym, and community service.

I enjoy helping keep our team organized and sharing what we’re doing with the community. Teen Talk is a great opportunity to combine my interests in communication, creativity, and connecting with people!”

Meet Our Volunteer Coordinator

Denise Ferrada | Youth Volunteer Program Coordinator

Denise Ferrada coordinates the youth volunteer program at WCOM Community Radio, helping young people discover their talents, develop leadership skills, and find their voices through radio.

With a professional background in sociology and community engagement, Denise has experience working with diverse communities, building partnerships, and creating spaces where people can connect, collaborate, and participate.

She believes that Carrboro’s vibrant, artistic, and culturally diverse community makes it a special place for young people to explore ideas, express their creativity, and become active members of their community.

For Denise, Teen Talk is about much more than broadcasting. It’s about giving young people the opportunity to take ownership of a project, work together, build confidence, and discover what they can accomplish when their ideas are heard.

Her goal is simple: support the team, open doors, and let the young people take the lead!
