We support independent, local music
WCOM is firmly committed to supporting independent music. If you have a new release or will be performing in the area, we have several ways of helping you reach our listeners. For best results, please follow the suggestions below.
Our music library
WCOM is an all-volunteer community radio station without a music director, or librarian. Most of our volunteer hosts bring in their own music to play, at their own discretion. The only way to find out whether your music has been played is by contacting the individual hosts. We cannot confirm whether a specific recording has been received, or aired. Telephone calls are discouraged.
New release play box
WCOM does maintain a new release play box and a “coming soon” play box for acts with upcoming gigs in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and vicinity. Musicians, labels, and publicists must be aware that these play boxes receive only
sporadic airplay. The only time DJs are around them is when they are actually on the air, and many of us program our shows in advance. See our mailing address, at the bottom of this page.
Address your music to specific people/shows
The best way to publicize your performance is to contact the relevant host(s) directly. For best results, your recorded music needs to be addressed to a specific show or show host. You can find our
schedule here. This will prevent your album from sitting on a shelf, unloved and lonely. Our electronic submission form requires you to specify which host you are addressing your music to.
