Mark your calendars! On Thursday, October 23rd, the Haw River Ballroom will come alive with sound, spirit, and solidarity for Music for Mental Health, a powerful evening presented by Be Good to Yourself (BGTY).
This special event brings together some of North Carolina’s most iconic acts—The Connells, The Roman Spring, and The Veldt—for a concert with a mission: ensuring that our music community has access to the mental health and addiction care it deserves.
About Be Good to Yourself
Founded in late 2019, BGTY has spent the past six years working tirelessly to support North Carolina musicians, venue and studio workers, and their families. Their vision is simple but vital: make counseling and treatment accessible—either free or at deeply reduced costs—for the people who create and sustain our music scene.
To make this vision possible, BGTY has partnered with two incredible organizations:
-
The SIMS Foundation, created in Austin, TX by legendary musician Alejandro Escovedo, which has provided nearly 25 years of care to Austin’s music community.
-
Backline, a national nonprofit connecting music professionals to mental health and wellness providers across the country.
Together, this network is laying the groundwork for a statewide support system right here in North Carolina.
Why This Event Matters
Music for Mental Health isn’t just another show—it’s the culmination of six years of fundraising, advocacy, and community love. This night celebrates the official launch of BGTY’s services in North Carolina, with care for musicians and their families set to begin as early as January 2026.
For the countless artists, venue workers, and behind-the-scenes teams who give so much of themselves to create the soundtrack of our lives, this marks the beginning of something life-changing.
