WAR and a visit with James Zota Baker

Last night (Friday 8/29/2026) Kershaw and Wade hosts of WCOM’s Weekly Dose Of … attended the Koka Booth Amphitheater show with WAR, Ohio Players, and The Family Stone on the card.  A good bit back Weekly Dose Of … had the good fortune of James Zota Baker (JZB) joining our community radio station as their guest.   James is an American guitarist, songwriter, producer, and educator with a career spanning over three decades.  His journey is a great story (James Zota Baker – Official Website), and he shared as much as he could during his short visit with Weekly Dose Of …   Going back to 1998 James joined WAR and toured for several years.  Lonnie Jordon is the remaining WAR original fronting the band.   After 2002 and a hiatus from WAR, James went off to work other projects.  The relationship with Lonnie a positive one brought JZB back in 2023.  He continues to tour as their lead guitar and backup vocals.  The hosts at Weekly Dose Of … have maintained their relationship with James and their good fortune landed Kershaw and Wade as guests for the show.  The bigger surprise was throwing in the all-access pass, which made the evening extra memorable for our WCOM hosts!

The show was absolutely killer.  Given there is little time to represent the collective catalogue of the three amazing acts in a short 4 hours, the bands crushed their sets and delivered a great night of music and atmosphere.  For a moment the crowd was swept back to the familiar place in life where these songs from a lifetime ago awaken the soul.   A fun night had by all.   As the evening concluded Kershaw and Wade and their guests were invited backstage to hang with band.   A night of great memories.  Thank you to Mr. James Zota Baker, a friend of Weekly Dose Of … and WCOM!
