The voice of Renaissance, and more!

WCOM Weekly Dose Of … had the incredible pleasure of Annie Haslam joining our show this past Friday 1/24/2025.  Annie has a storied career and is one of those remarkable voices many will remember from her time with the band Renaissance.  In addition, she has graced many musical projects and has had a long and diverse solo singing career.  Her voice is truly an instrument with a five-octave vocal range.  As the hour passed, we learned Annie had developed a parallel career as a visual artist, which she began around 2002, and since then has been producing paintings on canvas and other objects like guitars and musical instruments and includes giclée’s.  Annie has been commissioned for her visual arts works.

During our hour we were filled with unbelievable stories from her musical journey.  We learned she was one of those few lucky people on the street listening to the Beatles perform their rooftop concert.  To hear these stories was a treat.  Imagine having the privilege of simply chatting it up with Sir Paul McCartney (for an hour), who happened to hear singing outside the studio and was mesmerized by her voice.  The names of artists she has interacted with and performed with was surprising, one example included her collaboration with Steve Howe from Yes.

Since 1999, Annie has performed a Christmas show called “In the Spirit of the Holidays”.  Only 1 year in the past 25 years has been missed and this was due to the death of her close friend and colleague Michael Dunford.  If you’re thinking of attending her show, and are in in the local area, Annie plans on hosting the annual event this year and can be found performing at the Sellersville Theatre in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.  Included in the program are traditional Christmas carols, as well as Annie’s own compositions, and a number of solid Renaissance favorites.
