WCOM 103.5 FM is proud to welcome a powerful new program to our lineup — The Journey Home, hosted by mother-daughter duo Bessie Elmore and Cheryl McDonald. The show debuts Saturday, October 11th at 7 PM, bringing real, raw, and redemptive stories of life after incarceration to our community airwaves.
The Journey Home shines a light on the realities of reentry — the challenges people face as they rebuild their lives, the families who stand beside them, and the community resources that make second chances possible.
Bessie Elmore, a TEDx speaker, advocate, and founder of Straight Talk Support Group Transitional House Resource Center (STSG), began this work after her own son was sentenced to life in prison. Instead of succumbing to grief, she turned her pain into purpose — creating a community for families to share, heal, and navigate the difficult realities of incarceration. Years later, her son’s release after 24 years strengthened her mission even further.
“Too often, families walk this journey in silence,” says Elmore. “This show is about breaking that silence—creating a platform where voices are heard, stigma is challenged, and communities can come together around healing.”
Each week, listeners can expect interviews, open discussions, and resources surrounding reentry, mental health, and family healing — all anchored in the belief that transformation is possible.
🎙️ Tune in: Saturdays at 7 PM on WCOM 103.5 FM
