Our mission

WCOM aims to provide local residents with music and talk radio programming not available in commercial media.

We help cultivate the local art and music scenes, educate our citizens in media production, and facilitate the exchange of cultural and intellectual ideas — with particular regard for underrepresented voices.

Who We Are

WCOM is volunteer-powered radio. Our station is operated by the Public Gallery of Carrboro, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 1997 to educate, inspire, and entertain the diverse populations of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and nearby areas.

WCOM was the first local “LPFM” (Low Power FM) community radio station in the area, and began broadcasting on 103.5 FM on September 29, 2004.

Here for you

WCOM is a different kind of radio. Our volunteers love the medium of radio and care about the people who live here.

WCOM is a place where people gather to listen to good music, discover local news, learn about the world, laugh, meet good neighbors, and share ideas. The voices you hear on the air belong to real people making radio that is live, immediate, and interactive.
