James is a philosopher with a master's degree in the subject from UNC Chapel Hill. He is past president of the Ethical Humanist Society of the Triangle and has delivered numerous talks and presentations there and at other Ethical Culture chapters, including those in New York, Baltimore and Chicago. He was the host of the WCOM "Ethics Matters" broadcasts for over four years.
