Submitting Music

WCOM is firmly committed to supporting independent music. If you have a new release or will be performing in the area, we have several ways of helping you reach our listeners. For best results, please follow the suggestions below:

WCOM is an all-volunteer community radio station without a program director, music director, or librarian. Our volunteer hosts are completely in control of the content on their show. Most bring in their own music to play. The only way to find out whether your music has been played is by contacting individual hosts. Similarly, we lack the capacity to tell people whether a specific recordings have been received.  Telephone calls are discouraged. Usually only the host on air is at the station, so the folks who maintain the playboxs probably will get the message.

WCOM does maintain a new release playbox. If you’re playing a gig in the Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and vicinity), we have a dedicated coming-soon playbox. Musicians, labels, and publicists must be aware that these playboxes receive only sporadic airplay. The only time DJs are around them is when they are actually on the air, and many of us program our shows in advance.

For best results, recorded music needs to be addressed to a specific show or show host. You can find our schedule at http://wcomfm.org/index.php/programs/our-schedule. This will prevent your album from sitting on a shelf unloved and lonely.

Here is a are two examples of address formats that will maximize your chances for airplay.:
